Mike Okonkwo Annual Lecture
Mike Okonkwo Annual lecture was instituted in the year 2000 as part of activities to mark the birthday celebration
of the Presiding Bishop of TREM, Dr. Mike Okonkwo. This occasion was used to address topical issues relevant to nation
building. The public lecture is a way of adding our voice to critical national issues that affect common man and to
proffer solutions. This event which takes an important place in the calendar of TREM has grown to become a household
name in the Ministry and beyond. The main objective of the lecture according to the Presiding Bishop of TREM is to
positively impact the public through insightful and educative lecture presentation by astute and erudite scholars
from different professions. Over the years the target audience had always been the general public both young and
old, especially the youth in different categories, knowing fully that a well informed person will inform a better
and progressive society, thereby building a virile and world class nation.
Topics covering different fields of life had been treated in the last 10 years, ranging from, Education to Health,
Politics, law, Finance etc. The different topics are enumerated below:
- The Christian, The constitution and Politics (2000)
- Righteousness In Governance” And It Has With It Challenges (2001)
- Investing in the Nigerian youth: rescue to a wasting generations (2002)
- Consumer protection, the right of every Nigerian (2003)

The lecture remains one of the major social responsibilities of the church, which has contributed
in so small measure to inform the members of the society of their right and privileges and also their
expectation from the political leaders at all level.
